Harvesting Vibrational Energy
Background Information
As seniors of Mechanical Engineering at the City College of New York, one of our main goals is to work together in a group to successfully develop a design to solve a real-life engineering problem. Using prior knowledge from previous courses, our design group received a project from Alcatel Lucent to further assist them in harvesting energy.
Purpose
Design a device that would harvest the most vibrational energy possible from a monopole cell tower.
Requirements / Constraints
-
Work under the widest frequency range.
-
Each component must weigh 50 pounds or less
-
Device may not block the maintenance ladder.
-
Cannot interfere with the radio frequencies (850MHz, 1900MHz, 2100MHz).
-
Weather Proof
-
Operate in a temperature range of -20 F to 120 F
-
Energy harvested must be converted to 120 volt 60 Hz
